Things people ask most.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Gallery Cleaner classifies your photos entirely on your device’s CPU. No photo bytes, file paths, folder names, EXIF, or thumbnails ever leave your phone. The only data we collect is anonymous usage analytics (counts of events, no identifiers) and anonymous crash reports — never anything about your photos. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
I deleted photos by accident. Can I get them back?
Yes — within 30 days. Gallery Cleaner never permanently deletes anything. It moves photos to your device’s native trash:
- iOS: open Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted, select the photos, tap Recover.
- Android: open Google Photos (or your gallery app) → Library → Trash, select the photos, tap Restore.
After 30 days the operating system removes them permanently — we have no copies to restore from.
Why does Gallery Cleaner need access to my photos?
To classify your photos and delete the ones you confirm. The app cannot do its job without seeing your photo library on-device. The permission is read/write on your gallery; we use read access to scan, and write access only when you tap Delete (to move selected items to the device trash). You can revoke this permission anytime in your device Settings — the app will stop working until access is re-granted.
It flagged a photo I want to keep. What do I do?
Tap the photo once in the review grid to deselect it before tapping Delete. Deselected photos are remembered — we’ll never suggest them again in a future batch. Every flag carries a plain-English reason chip (Blurry, Similar, Screenshot, QR code, Low quality) so you can decide before you confirm.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Classification and deletion are entirely local — no internet required. The only thing that needs a connection is the small banner ad at the bottom of the screen and, if the app crashes, the anonymous crash report. Everything else runs offline.
How do I change which folders are scanned?
Open the app → Settings → Folders. You’ll see every folder Gallery Cleaner can see on your device (Camera, Screenshots, WhatsApp Images, downloads, and so on). Toggle the ones you want scanned. Changes apply to the next scan.
Why am I seeing ads?
Gallery Cleaner is free and supported by a single non-personalised banner ad at the bottom of the screen (served by Google AdMob). There are no pop-ups, no interstitials, and no rewarded videos. On iOS we do not request the App Tracking Transparency prompt — AdMob already serves only non-personalised ads. On Android you can reset or delete your Advertising ID via device Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Is there an in-app purchase or paid version?
No. Gallery Cleaner is free with one quiet banner ad. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paywalled features in the current release.
03 — Troubleshooting
Quick fixes.
App won’t open / crashes
Force-quit the app, reopen it, and try again. If the crash repeats, restart your device. Still failing? Email us with your device model and OS version — anonymous crash reports usually pinpoint the bug within a build or two.
Scan is slow
First scan is the slowest — it indexes every photo in the folders you selected. Subsequent scans are incremental. If a library of 50,000+ photos is being scanned for the first time, give it a few minutes and keep the app in the foreground.
Deletion didn’t seem to work
Deleted photos move to your device’s native trash, so they still occupy storage until the OS purges them after 30 days. To reclaim space immediately, empty the trash: iOS Photos → Recently Deleted → Delete All; Google Photos → Library → Trash → Empty Trash.
Reset all data
To clear all on-device state (the scan index, your deselected-photo memory, settings, and the anonymous analytics identifier): iOS → uninstall and reinstall the app; Android → Settings → Apps → Gallery Cleaner → Storage & cache → Clear data. Your photos are not affected.
04 — Privacy & data
Your photos, your phone.
Gallery Cleaner does not collect any data that identifies you. The only things we receive are anonymous usage events (counts of taps and scans, with no identifiers) and anonymous crash reports (stack trace, device model, OS version). Photo bytes, file paths, EXIF, and folder names never leave your device.
Because nothing identifies you on our side, there is no user-specific record to access, export, or delete. If you want to reset the anonymous identifier and clear all on-device state, follow the “Reset all data” steps above.
